Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten Registration?

Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten Registration?

Spring is a time that many schools begin registering incoming kindergarten students for the new school year.  A well child visit before registration is recommended. At this visit, your provider will discuss the various issues related to this important transition.

Immunization boosters are commonly given at 4 to 5 years of age. These can be a source of anxiety for parent and child; we encourage you to make this visit a special occasion with some one-on-one time for you and your child.  When you register your child for kindergarten, you will be asked for his immunization record. We can print a copy at your appointment.

Visiting the Doctor

The well exam is an important time to discuss health, development, and behavior concerns with your provider. The transition to school can be stressful for some families; your provider can discuss strategies to ensure a successful transition.

For children with special health needs, this is an important time to discuss any medications or allergies that might affect the child during the school day.  Many schools request copies of asthma action plans and allergy plans or have their own forms.  Updating this paperwork may take extra time so please mention them when you schedule.
