My child seems to get a lot of colds, is this normal?

Colds are common viral infections of the upper respiratory tract and occur quite frequently in younger children. In the first two years of life alone, most small children average 6 to 8 colds per year. If your child is in child care, or they are frequently around other children they may have even more, since colds spread easily among children who are in close contact with one another. Colds can be spread directly through coughing or sneezing, or indirectly through contaminated hands or surfaces. Most colds go away by themselves and do not lead to anything worse.
